Try it Yourself! Install a Wiki in 10 minutes

Wiki is a powerful web 2.0 tool when used for communication and collaboration. There are many online Wiki pages where you can play around to get a hang of the tool. But having your own setup will help you chose the right kind of Wiki for you project and also add customization to suit your teams.

We now install simple and fast Wiki - WikkaWiki

Step 1: Install XAMPP software on your PC or Linux server. XAMPP is an implementation of LAMP (Linux, Apache Server, MySQL Database and PHP/Perl). This software will allow you to host it as a webservice.


At the end of installation, XAMPP will ask you if you want to start Control Panel.
Start "Apache" web server and "MySQL" database.

Step 2: Download WikkaWiki software


Step 3: Unzip the WikkaWiki to directory. Rename the folder to 'wikka'
   C:\xampp\htdocs\ if it is Windows
   After unzip, your directory will be C:\xampp\htdocs\wikka

   If it is Linux, copy the unzipped files where your 'htdocs' directory is.

Step 4: Open browser and point to
   http://localhost/phpmyadmin

   Click on 'Databases' Tab
   Create Database: wikka
   Click 'Go'

Step 5: Go to http://localhost/wikka
    Database: wikka
    Username: root
    Password: <empty>

Follow the instruction on screen. Wikka might ask you to copy a file to another directory.

WikkaWiki is up and running!
